And maybe link to a page that doesn't make my browser flash "fraud alert"!

bit-tech reviewGuru3D reviewGeneral consensus seems to be that it is, indeed, stupidly hot - both articles i have linked to quote 94 DegC as the maximum, which is just plain daft for a stock card. Performance doesnt seem much higher than the 5870 in a majority of DX11 titles (BFBC2, DiRT 2, STALKER COP), but in DX9/10 there seems to be a sizeable boost, whether or not its worth it for the extra £120 and daft thermal specs/noise levels/power draw is a whole other matter think i might stick to my plan of buying a 5770 pretty soon, and maybe upgrading to crossfire or a 5850/5870 depending on prices when things start getting unplayable *EDIT* or here is something i find quite intriguing

From results I've seen it is very good at FaH - being some 3.5x faster than GTX 285.

Bit-Tech seem a little more impartial there But it's something to consider if you want to heat your entire house as well as play games. p.s. My browser threw up a fraud alert from the first link too.

Think I may go for the 470 one day - it's a sizeable improvement over my 275, but right now my current card does the job fine.

It's now doing that to me too. It wasn't yesterday. Anandtech is a trusted site that I've been using for years. I've no idea why this warning is starting to appear.

It uses 20W more than the ATi on a Windows desktop and in dual-monitor mode, it draws 100W on the Desktop! Peek in tests was measured at 302W by c't magazine, nVidia say it uses a maximum of 250W... The card uses more than 3 times the power of my current PC and monitor!

For benchmarkers, certain games and e-peen - it's a winner. For normal users it's a fat waste of cash. I'm not surprised either. I called it months ago. My only disappointment is that it's not cheaper. Now ATi have no incentive to reduce their prices.

I think you can at least partly blame TSMC for that. Their poor 40mn yields are keeping the prices up for both ATi and Nvidia. If there's not enough supply to meet demand (not to mention money wasted on dead GPU's) then prices go up.

GTX470 is basically the same price as the HD5870 (Asus branded cards are both £319.99 on Overclockers) GTX480 is only around £55 cheaper than the HD5970 I'm no fanboy but I cant see any good reason to buy this generation of nVidia yet compared to the price equivalent ATI card (and no I'm not a folder and even if I was with the power the nVidia is pulling I couldnt afford the electricity!! ) Thankfully I've given up on PC gaming so I dont have to get involved in a red Vs green argument. If it was my money though......
