If I buy a SATA II HDD for my MBP are they back compatible with SATA connections? I know my MBP supports SATA but not sure about SATA II but I can't find a SATA 500GB 2.5" HDD. TVM ![]() |

SATA-II uses the same connection as SATA-I IIRC. The only difference is that SATA-II has double the bandwidth or SATA-I at 300MB/s. Your Macbook should certainly support the increased bandwidth of SATA-II anyway. On a side note, what 500GB SATA-II HDD are you thinking of buying? |

It does...But then so does SAS, and that's completely incompatible! I'm pretty sure if you plug in a SATA-II drive it would just transfer data at a lower rate if the controller couldn't handle it... |

I bought this... CLICKY! I know it's only 5400rpm but to go up to 7200rpm wuold cost me about £150 instead of £80. |

Good choice. It won't harm your battery life as much as a 7,200RPM drive either. I saw the thread on Maplin and just loled - it's amazing how people in "computery" shops can know so little about computers and the hardware their shop sells for them. |
