Apple have updated their MacBoook Pro range

The 15inch models now come with either a Core i5 or i7 CPU with on chip CPU plus a nVidia card

You can specify a 512GB SSD if you want but that alone will cost over £1,000

They are very pricey... :( For the prices they are listing, I'd expect at least 8GB RAM as standard...

The top end 15" comes with an i7 but the 17" comes with an i5 :?

You can specify the i7 on the 17in. It will be an extra £160 though. It is a bit of a daft decision.

Probably to do with price points.

Wonder why the Macbook Air has not been updated?
:?

Do you expect them to still be making it next year?

Personally, no.

Especially not now the iPad seems to be doing quite well.

The Air was always a niche product. It could still be about.

Also be aware that i5 and i7 are dual core parts, not quad core.

Well it was their best selling computer for about a year.

I totally expect it to be on sale next year. I think it is the best computer that they make. The price is a little high and it needs the new trackpad but for anyone who wants to type on a train/plane it is a leader in it's class. I wish I had one rather than my heavy Macbook.

I agree it will probably be on sale next year. The fact that SSD's are coming out in larger sizes means that eventually they will come down in price and become the norm, though I would still like s DVD drive in there. Even if it has to be a 17" version. ;)

I would hope for a new device next year to fit that market. Something like a proper Macbook that is as portable as the Air. Modern technology is good enough not to require such shocking compromises any more. They might still use the same name, but it won't be the same computer by any other measure.

Even so there may still be a market for a ultra light laptop, even alongside a full spec 17" MBP with SSD.

They seem to have dropped the IR Receiver on these new models, as well as the latest white Macbook too. So, for now, no remote control to work with Front Row, which is a shame. I guess Apple will release a Bluetooth version of their remote soon to replace the IR version on sale at the moment. Bluetooth seems like a better solution as that's available on most Macs now.
