Post subject: | Onboard RAM not Recognised |
Mornin' all. Just recently I bought a 12" PowerBook off my mate. It wasn't that well cared for in it's life with him so I was thinking about buying a knackered unit of eBay and swapping the bottom case - as that's where the worst of abuse had manifested itself. Anyway, I mentioned this to another friend of mine and he produced a unit just like one I wanted from eBay from his cupboard (this guy used to be a certified Apple hardware engineer so this kind of behaviour is not uncommon for him). So we set about transplanting the case. During this stage we found out that his was a 1Ghz model compared to my 867Mhz so we also transplanted the internal boards, which also led to screen connection problems so we had to transplant the screen from my case to the new one, but I digress. So once everything was transplanted and tested I noticed that the onboard RAM wasn't showing in the About this Mac window, so I checked System Profiler and it also wasn't showing up in there either. Now, I thought if the onboard RAM was not working then the whole main board wouldn't work. Is this correct? Was there any issue with the 12" PBs not recognising the onboard memory? Mark |

The connections where the ram slots in on those are notoriously dodgy. It only generally manifests itself once you start messing with it. You could try cleaning the contacts, best google the proper way how. The other thing was the lower slot completely fails. http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports ... c3899.html |
