Am I missing something? Spell it out for an idiot please. Onboard AC97 audio on an Asus A8N-SLi Deluxe optical out to my Yammy amp. I thought I could just play a DVD and whatever was on the disk could be decoded by my amp, just like from my BD player. What obvious thing am I missing?? |

IIRC you need a software decoder on your PC to read the DD/DTS on the disk then send it to the amp (Cyberlink Power DVD or similar) |

K, so nothing freeware? Codec pack or something? Does the same apply to x264 mkvs? |

you need a linear pcm stream to send via toslink, so you will need to find a way to transmit that either via your soundcard or your dvd player software. |

Fixed it. AC3Filter. Lovely little codec and x64 support too. My amp picks it straight up. Happy days. |
