My first post since CPC went down,(raging at all the lost posts and pm's )

Anyway I just wanted to ask if anyone can recommend new memory for my Motherboard. it's an Asus Maximus extreme. I need to find the most compatible, because the Ram I bought previously is either just crap, riddled with problems or is just not compatible at all as I have been having problems for almost a year now and Ive had it.

Im running Vista 32 ultimate and looking for a 3gb pack of good RELIABLE memory. Dont want to spend over £100 either.

Can anyone help me out?

Personally I don't think you can go wrong with Crucial. Spent thousands with them over the years and never had a problem.

Admittedly I'm not sure how they fare for super performance "turbo nutter type" stuff but if all you want is quality memory that guaranteed to work then you can't go wrong...

Corsair - had lots of bother with them so now avoid.

Why 3 gb that's not go to run in dual channel. I run ocz on both my R/E boards run them over clocked with no problems.

Originaly I bought 2 of Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit.

They have given me nothing but problems. The reason I was going for 3 gb is because with vista 32bit you can't use 4gb.

Do you think using 3gb would make it unstable? I thought using 3gb would be better than using 2gb as I like to play games.

If I get a more Powerful 2gb kit will that be better than what I currently have?

I need a model suggestion so I can just buy it. as I am not 100% clear on the whole DDR2 thing and what not, I will need a clear description of which Ram would be best suited to my motherboard. (asus maximus formula, iX38, S 775, PCI-E 2.0 (x16), DDR2 1200/1066/800/667, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX)

With a matched kit of 3 you can run triple channel.

The Maximus Extreme isn't an X58 motherboard, so there is no option to run triple channel.

But, if you use 3GB, you lose dual channel operation and thus a bit of performance. For pre-i7 boards, 2GB or 4GB are the best configurations.

Sorry it's the Formula Im using, not sure where I got extreme from lol.

So a 2 gb kit eg. two 1gb sticks of say OCZ would be better than what I am running at present?

I just don't want to use Crucial again, mainly because of the experience I have had with them.

So any recommendations? (just to repeat, I would need exact model numbers compatible with my mobo, as I have no clue what's best in regards to all the 4-4-4-3 and DDR ect ect)

In my maximus formula I'm using 4x 2GB sticks of OCZ Platinum 1000MHz.
2x 2GB OCZ reaper sticks would do you well

I recently bought Geil 1066 (for me) and OCZ Platinum 800 (for brother) and I can't fault either. I used to be a Corsair man tbh but not so much anymore.

Excellent, I will be buying that this weekend.

The thing about setting the voltage manualy for maximum stability .....? I have no clue what that means, do I install it then go straight into the bios and change the voltage>? and if so what do I change it to. I am always afraid to go into the RAM part of the bios because I havent got a scooby what I am looking at. Any help would be awesome and thanks for helping me choose some nice new RAM.

There will be a sticker on the ram saying what voltage it wants.

Standard RAM runs at 1.8v, OCZ RAM generally wants 2.1-2.3v to run at it's full speed with the timings on the box

Excellent choice ran a treat on my max formula, I used to run it at 2.3v as that board does over volt it a bit.
