I surprised nobody has posted this in here already:

Unibody Mac Mini

Looks good but the price if frankly insane for such a low spec machine. It doesn't even have an i3 processor.
I dread to think what the new Mac Pro will cost whenever it's released.

There is a thread over in the news forum.

I agree though, it's a lovely machine - but I'd never buy one at that price.

For another £300 you can get the base model iMac with a faster CPU, more memory, bigger HDD and a keyboard, monitor and 21.5" screen. It's a no-brainer if you ask me.

Spotted that after I'd started this thread.

Unless that is you don't want any of those things. The fact is the mac mini is the only 'headless' Mac until you get all the way up to the Mac pro. It's an expensive option but if (for example) you want a mac based media center PC, it's pretty much the only option.

Very expensive, as I just posted in the News section, I'd expect 4GB RAM and a Core i3 for that price. It is very expensive for an outdated machine. :(

My mates thinking of getting one of these, but he has concerns over being able to upgrade the RAM himself. Does anyone know how easy/hard it is?
I've searched for guides but they all point towards the older Mac Mini, not this newer type.

The latest models are completely upgradeable for RAM, you just remove the circle panel underneath to access the RAM slot.
Have a look on this page...
http://www.apple.com/uk/macmini/design.html
...and below the 2nd image down from the top, click the "Removeable panel off" link to see the panel removed. I believe it just screws off, to reveal this...

The standard 2Gb RAM is supplied as two 1Gb modules, and it has two 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM SO-DIMM slots supporting up to 8Gb (Presumably 4Gb in each slot?)

Most excellent news.
Thanks very much for that post, Steve.

No probs, I notice they're recently dropped the price slightly too, by about £50 - it was £649, wasn't it?
Now £599. Sales in the UK are obviously not what Apple expected, not surprising given the initial £649 price tag! Might be wise to buy one this year before the VAT goes up again in January.

Yep, the price has dropped by £50.

Yep, I believe that's part of the reason for getting it now.

You can pick up a 24" iMac for that sort of money. Older generation, of course, but still...

My mate's been debating getting a 27" iMac, but he simply can't afford it at the moment.
He has a keyboard, mouse and a TV that doubles as a computer monitor, so he's thinking that he'll get the mini for about half a year and in that time save up enough money the get the iMac and sell the mini on to someone else.

I've got the new Mac Mini, it's fantastic as a HTPC yes it may be pricier than most options but it looks great, performs and works seamlessly with all my other tech.

If they do a refresh with an i3 CPU, I'd be very tempted, but it's a lot of money for a Core2.

Stunning looking thing though.
