I decided to put windows XP back on my eeepc (so that the girlfriend can use it - she hates k/x/ubuntu) and so I dug out my old XP disc, then used flashboot to put it on an SD card. Put it in the usual way, XP installer did it's thing, then on restart all i've got is "no active partition found" I guess something's gone wrong.. Anyone got any ideas? |

Are you going to completely get rid of Linux? If so it might be worth putting a live CD in and removing allof the partitions before you start the XP installation, as it sounds to me as though Windows is getting confused by the Linux partition setup. Having said that... I could be completely wrong, but that's what I would try. |

There's the problem... It's an eeepc >.< No CD drive, and i've not got an external one! I thought linux on an SD card would work but same error... |

I am almost certain that I've got an external CD drive at home, but I'd have to check what connections it has, (and if it works!) but depending on how quickly you need to get the laptop sorted out I could always lend you that for a few days/weeks if that'd help. |

some eee's have two flash disks, a small 4 and larger 12 or 16 gig. Could be pointing to the wrong one. |

That's really kind of you! I'll probably take you up on the offer but not quite yet - i'm about to move house and i'd feel much more comfortable accepting help when I can't lose/destroy said help =)
It does indeed have 2 flash disks, however i've tried both and with the 4 gig (the one that XP was to be installed on) it bring that error, with the 8 gig it does nothing except sit there with a flashing underscore! |

Whoopwhoop! Fixed. Turns out the SD card I had ubuntu on was corrupt and so I put it on another and it installed just fine. However ubuntu 10.04 doesn't like eeepc901s so wireless wasn't working. I had to roll back to ubuntu 8.10 and even then it only let me connect to open wifi connections. Here's hoping the latest one i'm installing at the moment (Xubuntu 10.04) will work as I don't want to go back to that ghastly 7.x version of ubuntu I was using before! On the subject of windows XP i've decided to give up. CBA with it, and it's questionable legally (even though i'd be using the CD key that's printed on the bottom of the eeepc the disk is from my other laptop...) |

As long as you have the valid certificate and key you are OK to use a different disk to install. Don't recall what I have on my eee901 think it's 8.1, wireless worked of with WEP after a bit of fiddling, but to be honest havn't even booted it recently |
