Hi all,

I'm looking for a news reader to take part in USENET discussions, does anyone know of a good one for OS X? A GUI would be prefered, but if you know of a relatively easy to use CLI app I'd happily use that.
I'd also prefer free, but don't mind paying a small amount (£10 top), I'd rather not use Thunderbird, I use Mail to sort my emails and using Thunderbird just for news...

Many thanks :D
Ben

I don't personally use it, but just recently a guy at work recommended I use Thunderbird as a news reader.

I found something called Unison, seems to do the job I want, though I couldn't find the group I wanted, so I've not tested it out 100% yet...

Thanks for your reply Mark :)

I really like Panic's software, so with any luck that'll be like Coda & Transmit and be really rather good.

I don't think I'd want to use Thunderbird either, just because it's not very Mac-y.

Unison is very mac-y, but it hasn't been updated in any serious way in quite some time - my copy has a modification date of September 2007 And they really weren't doing anything but bug fixes for a while before that. It has a few annoying foibles (and the way it organises it's cache files is frankly terrible) but it does generally do a good job.

Hmm.. quick look a Panic bloke Cabel Sasser's blog says they're hard at work on updates of all their applications. here's hoping they actually give Unison a bit of attention.

If you have a googlemail account, Google Reader is pretty good. It's main benefit is that it doesn't need to be installed, so you can access your feeds from any PC or mac with internet access. It'll also let you share everything on a dedicated page or on facebook etc...
It can also be accessed via a prism, should you want an icon on your desktop.

+1 for Google Reader, especially since it works across all platforms. :)

But it doesn't appear to be able to read news from USENET...
