Okay, I wasn't sure whether to post this here or Programming, but I settled on PC software.

Basically, at work someone wants a machine with IBM Rational ClearCase and IBM Rational ClearQuest installed on it.

I know absolutely nothing about either bits of software (never even heard of them), and neither does anyone in the team. I understand that it's development software, and we are going to be using it so that developers in the USA and the UK can use it. It's currently in use in the USA, but that's only a small office - the plan is to get it installed here in the UK with a plan to eventually have the Americans use our systems.

Has anyone here ever used it, and/or know of any good websites with some good resources/guides/how-tos? I've got a good IBM page for ClearCase, and I'm sure there is one for ClearQuest somewhere, but I've not found anything for n00bs, and the comments on IBM's ClearQuest product page are a little daunting.

Very first comment on the IBM website wrote:
As with other enterprise-level tools there is a bit of care, feeding, and initial setup. But what it has in power and flexibility more than makes up for these shortcomings.

Second comment on the IBM website wrote:
Lots of power and options. Go with ALM if you are just starting

*gulp*

I hope somebody has got deep pockets and a huge budget.

It is great for developing use cases etc. when analysing systems. It can then be fed into Rational Rose and the rest of the suite for developing systems.

As Alun says, you'll need deep pockets.

It is very expensive, I think you are probably looking at 5 digits per workstation...

Yup. They use it on Harrier, and it's very pricey. Completely different league to anything cobbled together on a shoe-string budget, though.

Ah I see-so has anyone here had any experience installing/configuring it?

Inherited it a few times but never installed it.
