We are using some software a local firm wrote that takes full copies of our servers overnight and pops them onto a NAS.

Now we have come to do a "test" and create virtual servers using this backup and whilst it works it is not creating the permissions correctly so we have got this local company to take another look and see whats wrong.

I see Acronis have launched Backup & Recovery 10 which now allows you to pull files out of the image if needed which was a feature missing in v9.

Does anyone use this version (v10) and can comment either good or bad as we are considering using that instead.

We use version 10 at work for image backups for our customers. It integrates with Kasaya as well.
We've also managed to convert the images it produces to vmware images as well.

Arcserve and Symantec Backup Executive are the two big names. I use Acronis TrueImage for imaging workstations, but haven't tried it on servers.

I use TrueImage "Always on" backup on my latop to constantly back-up my hard drive, when the external e-Sata is connected (works a lot like Timemachine on the Mac). I am very happy with Acronis.

We currently use Symantec at work, it is a very comprehensive package, but doesn't like it if you delete key directories, without removing them from the back-up set. It runs on our primary server, then an agent on all the other servers. It takes about 8 hours to back up everything we have to LTO - although it would be much faster, if the company invested in a decent gigabit switch!

I've only even known server backups to be done with rsync and a little bit of scripting around it.

With the script written by a man wearing sandals, socks and a nice big beard?
