Hey all, quick question.

When a graphics card manufacturer refers to components needing thermal pads with 6.0 thermal conductivity do they mean 6w/mk?

Cheers.

An example?

Well, HIS reckon you need pads with a thermal conducitvity of 6.0 (?) on the VRMs and the like on the GPU.

Thermal pads like this at Aquatuning refer to a thermal conductivity, in this example, of 5w/mk.

That one seems to be the highest valued one I can see out there whereas Akasa thermal tape (not pad) has a thermal conducivity of 0.9 W/m.°C. FWIW that's what I put in as a stop gap and it's been working fine.

So, what the frak do you think HIS mean? They spent most of their time saying they advise not taking the cooler off.... :D

I assume it's standard units :?

6.0 W/mK is the highest I've seen tbh - won't be cheap. However, it's probably a good idea on a Radeon toaster ;)

>>This site<< looks good for an explanation

Not sure TBH, they couldn't seem to make their mind up, I mean there's a bit of a difference between 3.0 and 6.0 isn't there.

That Aquatuning stuff seems to be the highest unit by far of all the component shops I've checked.

Thanks for the link, I'll give it a goosey.

Quite correct - I've seen 7W/mK, although 5 seems to be the most common.

Really?

I've been scooting about and thermal pads seem pretty thin on the ground, good ones anyways. A bit odd seeing as I'm sure there are plenty of people who take the coolers off to give them a clean. Ideally you could just TIM them up but the gaps are often too large.
