A combination of a weak pound, harsh winter and falling profits for farmers has meant that far fewer sheep are being reared in this country compared with a decade ago. This has had the effect of pushing supply down and prices up.

So nothing to do with other Welsh habits? ;)

Isn't that what makes the meat so tasty?

That will definitely happen, even when you allow for shipping it will be cheaper.

CAP was meant to make Europe self sufficient on food. The subsidises distort incentives to grow certain crops and we end up with huge surpluses periodically.

It's fuc*king ridiculous we have to ship lamb from one side of the planet to the other when we have the perfect conditions for breeding sheep here. I want British lamb, not fuc*ing NZ lamb, it doesn't taste as nice because of the travelling.

It is sent here frozen so the journey will have no effect on the taste.

Put some meat in a freezer for three months plus and tell me that it tastes as good as the equivalent steak frozen for only one week.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Is that supposed to be sarcastic, of course freezing will affect the taste and the texture and quality in general.

Not to mention it's unlikely the meat will have been hung as it's probably flash frozen in the slaughter house straight after slaughter.

This is bad thing whichever way you look at it, for the consumers as we're getting sub standard imported product at an inflated price, and especially for the farmers who ironically can't produce lamb cheap enough in this country.
