If the BBC had a graphics budget cut and called the show Dr. Who, would you still watch it?

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

The Doctor calles them “friends”. They were “assistants” when I was a kid. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Companion_(Doctor_Who)

You're all wrong. In English, if an abbreviation ends with the same letter as the word, it does not require a period after it. So, Doctor is just Dr, Mistress becomes Mrs, Mister is Mr and so on. If the abbreviation ends with a different letter, it has a period - Professor becomes Prof., Captain becomes Capt. I'll go back to my corner now and keep quiet.
