Just saw an advert on a bus for Robin Hood, how many times has that been re-made since motion film was invented?

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

It was very funny, as it was directed by Frank Oz, had Wash/Pirate Steve in it, and Daisy Donovan now I think about it. Now, it's been remade for the US - Clicky. Neil LaBute's directing this time, and let's face it, he's not known for his comedic chops. Pointless remake? Oh yes. | | | | |
Haven't seen the original, but even the trailer for the remake wasn't funny It still stands up IMO - obviously some of the effects look ropier now, but I'm one of those people that prefer actual FX to CGI

Why he doesn't just say "come here boy" rather than "come here N****r." is beyond me. That would sound a perfectly normal way to call a dog.

It was used as a code-word, though, too. There's an article aboot it here.

It's a word! How can a word be racist?! I can understand how a word can be used in a racist way but this is a word! It isn't being used to insult anyone. It's a fricking dog's name!

It's not just a word, it's the associations that go with the word. Mark

I know. Personally I hope they keep it in, and people will use a bit of common sense, but logic says there's bound to be a compromise.

I can quite easily associate baseball bats with the Mafia and brutal killings. Does that mean we should ban baseball?

Unless you're black and then you can use the word freely and move the association despending on your preference at the time e.g. to insult or to greet warmly

I'm not being silly. I realise that in the past the word has been associated with racism. I also know that baseball bats have been associated with murders. Logic follows that if the use of the word nigger must be banned then the use of baseball bats must also be banned. Also, as veato pointed out, "nigger" is used by black people to greet other black people in a friendly way. Edited for clarity

In the past? You think it doesn't happen now, just as much as it happened "in the past"? I think you need to look outside your middle-class white suburban box that you appear to be stuck inside of. Mark

This is a historical piece. Should we be re-writing history, because the history is now offensive? Although it seems that the Americans are already... Evidently the American Civil War was all about freeing the slaves, nothing else...
