SyFy has barely made it a fortnight, and I’m feeling more depressed about it’s schedule than before. V is kind of watchable, though I really feel that a repeat of the original would have been more appropriate. The rest of what they are showing at the moment doesn’t hold any interest for me.

I think the worst aspect if the number of films from The Asylum - a production house which is making money from riding on the coattails of Big Name Films. Yes, they are responsible from Mega Shark Vs Giant Octopus, but all the good bits from that film were in the trailer. I watched a couple of their films on Sunday, and it was like watching a school play with added GCI. Actors kind of waiting to deliver lines, lots of padding, and general lameness. There was one based on the John Carter books the other night, but I could not be bothered to watch. I’ll wait for the bug budget Pixar one to come out.

SyFy’s name change has clearly ushered in a poor roster of programming and a definite swing to dross.

Note: I have seen some very good low budget stuff in the past. It seems that quality isn’t on their list of requirements anymore.

Oh, I don't know if it was on the *sigh*fi channel but I watched I really lame film over the weekend - it had time travel and dinosaurs.
It was just as you describe above, actors leaving massive pauses inbetween lines, lots of over-the-top shouting and arm waving at the end. Attractive females wearing tight clothing (steady boys) with Hollywood smiles and no personality. Dialogue that made a James Cameron script look awesome.

Man, it was a truly terrible film. It wasn't even a film that was so bad it was good. It was just bad.
Was this on the smae channel, Paul?

Mark

Wasn't it always pretty hopeless? Loads of American series that were rubbish (didn't they show 'Flash Gordon'?) and poor-quality made-for-TV movies, usually about meteors hitting the earth or sword and sorcery. I'd much rather they showed Classic Sci-Fi movies from the 50's and 60's from time to time than endless repeats of Buffy, Smallville and the like.

I've never had any problems with Cameron's writing really, though I haven't seen Avatar...

I think we saw the same film. It was on SyFy on Sunday afternoon.

Tonight’s movie, if you can be arsed to watch, is (wait for it) Snakes on a Train.
