I'm so happy that the personal allowance will be raised, lifting those who earn £10,000 or less out of tax. It should also have a decent effect on those on or below "average" earnings.

Also, hopefully, it should then provide a decent incentive to work as it should show that, financially, people will be better of than on benefits.

I agree with both these points.

£700 is a lot of money to see back in your pocket. The only problem is that they are going to increase employees' national insurance aren't they?

I think that the Tories are going to stop that going through.

Yes, there's already been an express statement that the 1% rise in NI will be scrapped in the next budget (within the next 50 days).

What would be better is to get rid of the cap on the employees NI rather than increase it.

As owner of this thread, can I ask we keep it on topic and don't let it ramble off down some odd byway or other?

Thanks. ;)

Here's a simple idea.

Have we found any oil at the Falklands yet? If not, sell it to Argentina for £170billion, that'll sort the deficit out.

It's a useless piece of rock if there's no oil anyways.

I'm sure that's what the Russians said about Alaska.

We must have other bits of rock here and there we can palm off.

Mind you if the banking system goes up the proverbial creek again I'm going to go mental on Capitalism and kick it in the collective shins till it bleeds.

Well there is Rockall, but too small for the Americans to build a military base on. There is Diego Garcia, but the natives want to return. Added to that the Yanks are too poor to buy it.

It will because they have left in place all the flaws that allow bankers to make big profits but still take stupid risks. It is just a matter of when.

We should put the rent up, then. And on all their other bases here in Blighty.

They've had their own way too long. Payback time. We don't owe them diddly any more.
