I have never had a migraine, and my last head ache was more than twenty years ago, but from what people have said then she should have just kept off the computer till she returned to work. Though having your boss on your friends list really should be avoided.

I suffer from moderate migranes when I dont feel like/cant doing anything due to the symptoms (pain, eyes watering, light aversion, sickness, etc) In between taking as many painkillers as I can (Codeine, Paracetamol, Asprin) though I can function enough to perform basic tasks at home like making a cuppa or changing the baby. I'm not sure I feel the need to check Facebook mind you.

If - and it has happened twice in my life - the migrane worsens I literally cannot do anything.

I used to suffer from migranes but they steadily disappeared in my late 20's and then it was headaches. I''m with Zippy on this one - there's no comparison (same symptoms as well). The migranes are slowly coming back (as the doc said they would) and the only decision for me when I get one is whether to have a bucket beside the bed or try and make it to the loo (about 3m). Sometimes the pain is not worth the effort. I can't even wear an eyemask when I've got a migrane so have to rely on blackout blinds and curtains with velcro to keep the daylight out.

Facebook (or puters) are defo out but a harsh decision - entrapment, with all the moral dilemmas that brings.

Al

Harsh, really?

No sympathy here.

She decided to chuck a sickie, and was stupid enough to get caught.

Now, I'm no saint, and I admit to chucking the odd sickie here and there in the past; but it is essentially stealing from the company you work for.

You fancy a day off, fine. Just have the good grace not to broadcast it.

I think if she'd phone in stating that she had a migraine and therefore couldn't drive in then the company wouldn't have a leg to stand on. As she (apparently) specifically stated that the migraine was stopping her from using a computer then I think the company are completely justified in their actions, even if firing is perhaps on the harsh side. I'm not at all familiar with Swiss employment, but it could possibly be considered fraud depending on the sick pay arrangements as well.
