Was shocked to find one of the companies I work for only has a 10mb line. That's for an office of about 40 people on a busy day. What do the rest of you have? I'm curious and nosey.
This is BUSINESS accounts, I don't want to know what all you home gamers have lol.

Up to 20. Averages 6mb, 400k up (we're in the middle of nowhere) 20:1 contention though and generally adequate for the two people who might ever be using the internet concurrently

At home I have a 16Mb ADSL line with a 1.3Mb upload speed (that is "up to 20Mb"). Not sure what the contention ratio is but it has never been slow in the year that I have had it.
At work we have a 10Mb leased line.

8mb ADSL line. Get about 6mb download speed. There's only three of us though.

We've got a 100Mb fibre line down to our data centre which is in the same office building.
For the internet there is a self implemented speed limit of only around 5-10Mb as we use the rest of our bandwidth to transfer data to and from depots.
Not sure what speed the depots have? Maybe 2-5Mbs for around 3 to 4 people per depot.

What sort of contention do people have? I think that's as important a question here.

I'm guessing we have a dedicated line. And I think we may even have 3 or 4 lines.

I guess it's 20:1, but it seems like 2:1 as it seems to run at full speed most of the time.

But still a residential speed in Sweden or Korea.

It is a bit silly. We do a lot of collab work with other unis on stuff like high energy physics and biogenetics that require absolute wadloads of data to be passed around. Pretty much all the academic & technical staff have 100mb/s direct internet access to their desktop.. Jon

We have 2x 8Meg 20:1 ADSL2 lines, one for backup. There's only 5 of us here so it's fine.
There are a lot of businesses with ~50 people running on "normal" 20:1 broadband lines, and the speed they get is often nowhere near the 20Meg max due to line lengths. The price difference between ADSL and a leased line is just too big to justify anything better, and most companies do not need everyone browsing all the time.
