That's not the reason. I wanted the 3G one for it's GPS ability, but I thought long and hard about how much I'd actually use it when out and about and it didn't justify the extra cost for the 3G version. I would still very much like the GPS, but simply can't justify the extra cost. Mark

Quality is remembered long after price has been forgotten. But then Geekette may not see it that way.

Do you have an iPhone? Could that do what you want GPS wise? I simply could not justify the 3G iPad. I would rather have the extra storage anyway.

I do, but it can only do GPS on it. It won't transfer the coordinates to an iPad. The extra storage isn't problematic for me as I'll be getting a 64GB one anyhow. (8+) Mark

Actually, yes it will. If you connect the iPad to the iPhone using the new wifi tethering feature, it also lets the iPad query the GPS system in the iphone and use it for location services. It's been tested and shown to work. It also works when I connect my iPad to my mifi, so it may be a more general '3G' thing. Jon

Just seen a report suggesting that, due to the Japanese earthquake, Foxconn only have two weeks worth of components left for the various gizmos they make, after which there will be a stall in production while their 'backup' suppliers come on stream. Seems to me if you want an iPad 2 any time soon, go for it at launch, because once those sell out there may not be many more for a month or two. 'Time to ship' on the US Apple store has already gone up from '2-3 weeks' just after launch to '4-5 weeks' currently.

I was planning for launch, anyway. Though won't this simply mean that they sell out on day one everywhere?

Hard to know the truth though. Apple are known for not saying much. This leaves plenty of room for rumours. Rumours are all free publicity.

Flash 10.2 on the Xoom...The iPad 1 - i.e. the old one with the crap graphics chip - can display streamed 720p video without dropping a frame (assuming you have enough bandwidth to get the stream fast enough), and has been able to since the day it was launched. To quote admitted Apple advocate Gruber "When will Flash not suck? The answer is always “soon”."

Out of interest (professional interest) does Android have a decent sequencer to match Garageband? I had a bit of a browse but could only come up with a really poxy stuff. Reason for asking PC using mate wants a tablet but would want softwear to marry tablet to desktop. Mac and iPad both with Garageband would do, but as I said he is on PC. CC
