No I make thai curries hence the coconut milk. The rum is for adding to coke. :-)

... mysupermarket.com. I signed up and then spent an hour so trying to organise a big shop. I split it between Asda, (4 miles away) and Tesco (9 miles away) so even £3 a time for delivery works. Some items were cheaper with Asda so I bought them from Asda. The other items were either cheaper, same price or lots of bonus club card points. So on Monday I have one delivery and the second on Tuesday. I have also done well in saving more than £20 in the process. More than enough to cover the extra delivery...

One thing to be aware of is the Asda Price Promise. If they're not 10% cheaper than the other stores, they refund you the difference. It's quite difficult to beat that deal by shopping around!

Has anyone used Iceland? I had very good reports from one friend who said their deals were very good compared to Tesco. He was particularly skint at the time, so spent a while looking for good deals. They don't just sell frozen stuff; one particular recommended choice was their ham off-cuts which sound fantastic for salads and sarnies.

Iceland was probably my main supermarket during my first year of Uni and was still a secondary source.

It wasn't bad price wise, quality wasn't too shabby either on the fresh produce, however it was lacking in the actual number of products. Also fresh meat was rather limited (for example, you couldn't get Chicken Wings or a nice Steak).

Iceland fresh stuff is OK but generally the ready meals etc are on the cheap side - both in price and ingedients / flavour

Actually the only time I tend to use them is if we are having a big party and I want lots of small nibbles / finger foods in which case they to party platters that are good value (I tend to liven them up with homemade dips to add flavour)

My cousin uses it all the time. He gets his milk from there. It was £1 for 4 pints. Cheapest around. Though he has one very close to justify it.

For the purposes of full disclosure I now develop software that forms part of the online grocery ordering process for one of the major players in the UK market.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone's views or habits regarding online grocery shopping changed over the past year? Me and the Frenchun did our first actual proper serious (non-staff-discounted) online shop (As opposed to a termly order when students that was split between a houseful, when we couldn't be arsed to lug carrier bags up the hill) and I have to say I was impressed. Everything was packed sensibly, the order was delivered the following day cheaply, at a time convenient for us, and I think we got a very decent amount of food for our money.

I still like to squeeze my avocados and tease my carrot before purchase.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.
