The official EU Blog has just posted an notification that there's a PS3 firmware update out, and the notes say...

"For PlayStation Plus members, System Software update 3.70 introduces two often requested features: Automatic syncing of trophies to PlayStation Network and automatic upload of game saves to Online Storage (only available to PlayStation Plus subscribers). Syncing of Trophy information will occur at the time you select in the Automatic Download settings; due to these additional functions, ‘Automatic Download’ will be renamed as ‘Automatic Update’."

Automatically copying your game saves to cloud storage? Woot! as the kids say, shortly after throwing a bollard through the window of Carphone Warehouse.

Don't worry I'm sure Sony will do something that will be evil shortly.

Yeah, that foxed me for minute too. Who the .... thought 'my channels' was a good idea? Oh and the autosave to cloud thing is done in a dumb way too. You can't switch it on for everything, you have to switch on on a per-game basis. And you can't switch it on for a particular game as an option on the existing save on your PS3's hard drive, oh no. You have to switch it on by putting the game disk into your PS3, then selecting the option by pulling up the properties of the game itself. Which, if you have 'auto run games on loading' switched on, you can't actually do..

Sony : Inventing new and innovative forms of facepalm.

However, it seems they're not all bad.
