It does look real, but far more images than I have seen elsewhere and it looks consistent. So far I have seen loads of pictures of cases but none of the phone itself. So this could be genuine. Also looks very extensive. So could be real pages that slipped online somehow.

As far as I'm concerned if it ain't announced it can't be delayed.

Easy way to check - watch the Apple jobs pages to see if they're hiring web staff in the near future.

Ultimately Apple will release it when they are ready. It might be frustrating for those wanting to upgrade. Though they are not the main target. There are plenty or people buying a new iPhone and if they announce it then all it will do is cannibalise sales until the new phone is available.

It's almost like they new it was my birthday and were holding it back especially for me!

I would imagine that it would be within a couple of days. I suspect that iOS 5 will be available the same day with the iPhone a week later. They need to warn people so they can queue.

Looking at the image for the event...

Tuesday 4th obviously means that it will be next Tuesday.
10am is the time it will start.
It's going to be at Apple Headquarters from the map pin. (That's Infinite Loop).

So... what is the 1 in the notification for?

I guess the fact that it's a phone notification means it'll be an iPhone update but why the 1?

I can't imagine it has been put there without having a reason to put it there.

My first thought was maybe that they are confirming they will only release one new iPhone and quell the rumours about an iPhone 5 and an iPhone 4S... maybe?

Maybe so. However I personally read it as shorthand for 'you have one unread message'. That could either mean the invite itself, or it could mean that the event will focus on one single topic.

It would be brilliant if the '1' was some sort of special ink so it faded shortly after the invite was removed from the envelope it was in, but maybe that's too much even for Apple .

It is for the fact that you will miss the event as the tickets have all been sent out, and you do not have one!

Why the 1? Because there will only be one new phone.
