Yeah, I remember when Waterstones came round my house and burnt all my Pratchett novels after they changed the usage policy.

Oh, no, actually they didn't cos books > ebooks. ;)

And then you'd have no books.

However, if you'd bought them on a kindle, they'd still be safe and secure in the Amazon archive - subject to the occasional technical glitch. This is just one reason why ebooks > books ;)

When I get bored of my book and need cash I can sell it on Amazon. Oh the irony. That's just another reason why books > ebooks.

I got a WiFi only Kindle for Christmas. Bought The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest for £2.30 which is a great price. I do like the screen and navigating the book store is so simple.

Don't see the need for a web browser given the e-ink screen.

The other thing I like is how books and the page you stop reading at are synchronised between the Kindle, my iPhone and the desktop clients.

Got the Kindle app for Android and bought my first book last night - Lee Child, Worth Dying For. Price was good (£4) and I started reading on the bus this morning. Very happy so far. I'm sure e-ink would be better for longer periods of reading but the phone is fine for lunch breaks. I use the sepia setting and turn the brightness down to around 25%.

Kindle arrived.
Loaded it up with study manuals and a few books I had.

So far it's brilliant

I've seen them in PC World too. And I've heard that John Lewis sells them and that Carphone Warehouse gives them with phones on contract...

I will consider one at that point as well. Though with an iPad it is unlikely.

Arise thread, I command thee.

My mum has bought me a Kindle for xmas - the bog standard wifi model with no keyboard. She phoned me and said I had to open it and register it online before xmas - some kind of 30 day special offer. This has given me the chance to have a little play before I wrap it up again (so the kids can see me open a prezzie on xmas morning, she says).

My first thought was I have an iphone and a PC, and we have laptops lying all over the house; so why do I need a Kindle?

The answer is probably the same for everyone else - the screen! It's great. I've just spent the last hour reading a book on it, and it just seems to vanish. I mean, you sort of forget about the device very quickly (despite pressing a button to turn the page), and just enjoy your book.

I'm reluctantly putting it away now.
