Sorry, just the image of drunk people on a train... Here, there's probably a film in that ;)

I used to catch a train back from Aberdeen when I got back off the rigs. There was nearly always a rig pig (usually a Glaswegian) who was drunk on there at ten in the morning, thinking every woman on the train would be his friend.
Is that sort of thing enough to justify a ban on alcohol on trains? No. Most trouble makers are already wasted before they get on. Why should people who want the odd drink on a long journey be made to suffer. And banning drink from being carried is silly. What if I wanted to take a bottle of whisky home from a trip to Scotland. Would I be thrown off a train if they found it?

"Drunk" is such a subjective word. You were probably so wasted, everyone else seemed sober. :-D

Hamburg banned drinking on the U and S Bahns (underground and fast rail systems in the city), along with trams last year. Most users of the system welcomed the change, although there was a big Facebook meet-up of drinkers on the system on the last night, before the ban came into effect.

Sounds similar to when they banned booze on the London Underground.

And that was, indeed, the end of days.

I don't see anything to complain about in this, to be honest. If you're the type of person that likes a can of something on the way home, you should still be able to as the ban is only in effect between 9pm and 10am.
It's not a blanket ban, just a period of time during which there's no booze.

A reasonable argument, but unfortunately it doesn't work if you do shifts.

Indeed. 6 - 9 is the Bullingdon Arms, then 9 - 11 is the Nags Head...

That's why the meating was before the ban came into effect.

The vast majority don't work lates though.
Generally speaking, I'm against drinking in public. Wait till you get home, or perhaps go to the pub.

Corbridge used to be on my train home from uni/work, every Friday evening they had a full waiter service on the train from Newcastle where you could get drinks and order your food for the restaurant, was called the 'curry train' and was very popular, and a lot of the users of the service were pretty steaming when they got on to say the least!
