What's everybody using please? No poll, as I have no idea what any of them are beyond Whatsapp.

Just wanna know what to look at for my Android as I may be off again shortly and I wanna get prepared...

Also is there any way to send and receive regular SMS from my phone number to another phone number but using wifi and not the network? That would obviously be handy abroad where each text costs 10p.

Use my iPhone and if they're on an iPhone too, it becomes an iMessage.

I get unlimited texts, so it bugs me a little that it uses my limited 3G instead of my unlimited texts. Not too big a deal so far as I've never gone over my data limit, but still.

Most networks let you send texts from their website. Some of them give you a few free ones every day too.

But what if I don't wanna use their website coz I don't use the browser on my phone? No app option?

And Tom, I didn't know that they did that. Cool feature, but yeah annoying that you can't choose.

Can't say I'm too bothered, I don't recall using Whatsapp on public wifi, mostly I use the mobile network or my own WiFi.

Besides if I was sending truly sensitive information then I would be using Blackberry messenger, not anything available in the Android market.

So how do you stay in touch with people over here and elsewhere then?

Linux, normally the public wifi thing would be a big no no for me. But overseas, it's all I'll have. No data and no network to call my own!

Email, phone call, smoke signals.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I would've thought you'd be another one who has need of such services. Especially when Danish phones are so freaking expensive for overseas stuff...

I'm just saying that there are lots of options available.

Sometimes it's just good to talk.

Agreed. I much prefer to talk when possible. But not when it's 35p a minute ;)

Telephone, e-mail and this forum.
