That's sad. Great writer and performer. He contributed some excellent work to things like The Goon Show.

+1. A sad loss to comedy, and he managed to make us laugh without resorting to bad language... R.I.P, Eric.

Sad - I'll miss his voice most - he was one of those people who you could listen to very easily.

Another era comes to an end.

Sad news, and an end of an era as everyone has said. I guess it'll be the Pythons next. Then I know I'll be getting old.

That would be the rest of the Pythons - remember one of them has already pegged it. Also worth noting that Python associates have gone - Douglas Adams (Terry Jones wrote a book based on H2G2 passage), and two members of Pink Floyd - Richard Wright and Syd Barrett. Terry Jones seems to be the link there. Also don’t forget George Harrison, who funded Life of Brian through Handmade Films, ensuring its production and controversy. I remember John Cleese many years ago spoke about having the “tap on the shoulder from God” - indicating that some health issue had made him realise that he wasn’t immortal. I’m bracing myself - the remaining Beatles, Python, Pink Floyd - all at that age. And my parents.

Any football fan goes through this early - you go through it when you hear of a footballer's retirement that you saw make his debut. Jon

I remember when I found out that Neil Webb (of Forest, United and England fame) was having to work as a postman.
