Finally saw Captain America (on DVD).

I think it's probably one of the best, if not the best, Avenger movies.

I actually thought it was one of the weakest (outside of Iron Man 2).

Ignoring IM2, and you should :P , my take is that Thor has been the weakest. America would have been better for me personally if it had maintained the old school Lucas/Spielberg vibe it had at the beginning, but it's still a decent film.

ION, The Lincoln Lawyer's good if you like twisty courtroom thrillers. Might check out Connolly's books...

Home Alone in Scotland: aka Skyfall.

Judi Dench saves it from being another pouty, sunsetty watch advert.

Bearable storyline, hit and miss action sequences (but when it hits it's good).

Suffers from Dark Knight bad guy syndrome.
6/10

Finally got round to see The Avengers last night - thoroughly trite brainless harmless fun. The whole earth invasion ending was a standard farce, and not really the climax it was being built up to be - but I expected nothing more, and it's always a joy to see Scarlett. Oh and Cobie Smulders was a pleasant, if underused, extra.

You might do better trying out Michael Connelly's books.

Personally I love them. Harry Bosch is a great character. I've just finished The Last Coyote. If you do enjoy them you might want to check out John Connolly novels too.

Another oldie -

Just watched Glengarry Glen Ross for the first time in over ten years. I forgot just how great it is.

20 years old and still completely engrossing.

Easily a 9 out of 10.

I'm 15 minutes into cult classic "Eraserhead", masterpiece of the genius that is David Lynch. It has so far confirmed all of my worst fears.

To watch the remainder of its runtime feels like subscribing to days, nay years, of water torture. I'm trying to fight the urge to smash the laptop against a wall. I'd ask if it gets better, but I know it will not.

I may have to watch it in 10 minute sessions, with no heavy blunt objects within reach.

If Lynch's latest release was in a toilet many would claim it was a twisted masterpiece...

Yes, I had forgotten. Although, it's all dialogue and superb acting, so I didn't mind.

The Amazing Spider-Man - I went into this with really low expectations, but I honestly believe it's better in every way than the previous films. The characters certainly ring truer, and it's as soppy as a Spidey film's gonna be, but it's not enforced Twilight-style bollocks like the last set. The CGI's a little ropey in places, but that's true of just about every film these days, and at least it's used efficiently. Also, this guy's more about instinctual movement than stupid slo-mo shots with no tension!

One thing to note, this Spidey is a proper teenager; in this film that actually makes him interesting, as opposed to a wimpy tw@. It won't be for everyone, but it's only real limitation is that it has to get the origin story out of the way again. And at least that's handled in a neat way (there's a credits sequence).
