I would have thought every ten years would be sufficient. Though maybe an automatic retest if you get three points on your license might be a useful interim.

I've always thought a driving licence should be more like a pilot licence. When you consider the number of deaths and injuries, there's a clear justification for stricter rules.

If 50% of current drivers were taken off the roads; good. Driving is a privilege, not a right. It might even give a boost to local businesses.

Should drivers have to complete so many flying miles per year?

Hopefully they won't be flying around, but so many miles? Yes, not a bad idea. Even if it's only 50 miles a year.

I'm not the only one to have passed the test, and then not driven again for a long time. I was a terrible driver after about 5 years of not practising! I've since done over a million miles and never caused an accident, but I was not really safe to start with.

I do not have a car, as I cannot get a blue badge and without one I could never find the car. That said I hire a car when needed but those days are rare and can get by with public transport most of the time. If they have such an annual mileage aspect, it will mean people like me having to do annual tests and that would harm car hire. As government will just treat it as an additional tax.

I actually can get a badge, but I no longer feel safe to drive so I have given up the car completely.

I find it strange that they gave me the badge without asking if my driving was impaired!

I am always asked about it because of the memory. I actually passed three months after the road accident and when my memory was at its worst.
