The Great British Bake Off could be much improved by the ejected contestant having to commit ritual suicide due to the weight of shame caused by getting a cake wrong.

The technical bake from last night really did look like a brain.

You may laugh at the idea of a 'technical' bake, but there is a degree of science to baking and a requirement for precision and accuracy if you want good results. For example, to get certain things to set properly or to temper chocolate you have to heat them to a very specific temperature for a very specific length of time. What's that if not 'technical'?

The thing they were asked to do was a Charlotte Royal, which looks like this :-

As I said, like a brain.

My gran was admitted yesterday following a fall. I've only just found out about it, so will visit tomorrow now.

In some ways, it's really her own fault. She hates doing physio exercises to strengthen her muscles. She doesn't like eating much and claims to fill up quickly. She hates using a zimmer frame and so doesn't bother. So, in some ways, it's her fault that she's had a fall. But in some ways, I wonder whether she's given up on life. In which case she's likely to die before Christmas.

That looks like the Lorraine Pascal easy to make Icecream cake, which I guess is based on the Charlotte Royal, and cheats using swiss roll.

Someone in the last series filled a blue latex glove with blood after slashing an artery.

I kind of got drawn into it again. I really don’t like the cooking competition programmes. I’d love to know how they do some of the things they do, but it’s all about the competition and “personal journeys” and not about how to actually make the things. So it leaves me cold. I expect there are producers egging the losing contestant to cry on camera. That bit always seems contrived.

Paul Hollywood should just pass a service revolver to the failed individual and tell them to “do the honourable thing”.

Slight exaggeration ;) .

That's a bit too posh. A better option would be to hand them a bottle of gin and the keys to a semi in Milton Keynes. Actually, maybe the revolver is kinder.

There are laws against that, unless you're eating outside?

On my mind: some people aren't intelligent enough to realise how dumb they are, and that gives them certain advantages.

Technically know as the Dunning-Kruger effect.
