I mean God forbid you'd want to have a private conversation, we can't have everyone being able to shout 'national security!', can we?

Did you expect privacy? Are you that niave?

They are probably concerned about the chat service being used like a private telephone service between two terrorists co ordinating an attack somewhere other than call of duty.

I know quite a few people have 'accepted' that governments, corporations and whoever else can and will spy on them, but I'm not one of them and never will be. When did privacy become such an outrageous concept? And if it's good enough for Google of all participants to complain about the NSA hacking it's 'wires'...

I'm amazed we're on page 50 of a thread about the next gen games consoles.

Microsoft are launching failboats again. While my credit card company has my correct date of birth I regularly give a false one for online accounts as a way to avoid identity theft. All this does is force people to use real details which compounds the problem when Microsoft get hacked.

How many actually use their console for listening to music? Unless it is part of the game.

You'd be surprised. For one thing, it's handy while you are waiting on a ridiculous download or using the system's other features. There's even a PS3 animation option while music is playing. And I never tried it, but some systems have let you play your own tunes in-game down the years.

At one point I did rip my own CD's to the XBox and play CD's on the PS2 but that was because of my circumstances then. I can now stream music from my computer around the house so do not need to use the console for that. If I had a big update I would turn the screen off or switch channels and do something else instead. What annoyed me at the time was if you wanted to play a DVD you had to buy a special remote that enabled DVD playback on the Xbox.

I sometimes stream music from my laptop to my TV via the PS3. I also stream videos occasionally (mainly films or TV shows I've downloaded but don't want to play on my laptop).

I have an Apple TV that does both of those rather well. With the arrival of cheap boxes like Roku and others it would seem to be duplicating a service that is already out there. Though if you are trying to flog your system as the core of a home entertainment system then it does sort of make sense. It also does fulfil the demographic that have none of those other services.

But I dont want another 2 boxes under the TV with 2 more remotes to loose

With the TV, Vigin BOx and PS3 I can get away with only 2 remotes as the VM remote also controls 90% of the TV fuctions and the TV remote (as its a sony) also controls the PS3 for playback etc

Slightly irritating thing is neither the PS4 nor the XBox One allow you to use the perfectly decent remotes that you could get for the 360 and PS3. As far as I can see, the only way to control them is using a gamepad. Which is fine when you're playing a game but somehow doesn't feel right when you're watching a film or using iPlayer etc.
