No. Especially not when I realised I need to move flat in less than 10 weeks

So the Student Loan Company (SLC) decided to sell/pass on my outstanding loans to another company so they were no longer directly on the governments books.
The new company, Erudio Student Loans (ESL), didn't send me any paperwork to tell me that this had happened and the only notice I got from SLC was a name change on the letter I received confirming that my loans had been deferred for a year (didn't exactly stand out). A bit pants to be sure but not worth getting bothered about... until ESL ignored my loan deferment and started taking money off me (see tails of fail).

So, I phone up ESL to find out what the heck they think they're playing at. They claim that SLC didn't tell them that I had deferred my loans for a year and they'd look into it.
I got a letter on Saturday saying thanks for my complaint, they were looking into it and would respond within 8 weeks. 8 WEEKS!
How can it possibly take up to 8 weeks to sort out a simple clerical error - especially when I sent them a copy of the deferment confirmation from SLC?

Gah! I swear this is a ploy to make it so much hassle to defer repayment of loans that everyone gives up.

I don't know if there's anything here of use, I just remembered you mentioning it

The previous sysadmin was, let's face it, a dozy w@nker.

He has set up a web portal for our site engineers to use for external access to our Helpdesk, bug-tracker and CMS - all of which contain very confidential info. Unfortunately:

  • the link he set up requires no sign in at all
  • the SSL certificate is invalid
  • it takes you directly to the log-in page for the main router
  • he hasn't documented any of it

Sister texts 3 times to day to see how I am, making sure I'm ok. So I relent and phone her, and then spend an hour listening to her vent her issues instead of actually listening to my own - the pretext for the call in the first place.

Nationwide really need to design their online banking site better. It would also help if they were more explicit about the difference between a "transfer" and a payment into an ISA.

With regards to ISA's when I've transferred money in from a different ISA in the past I had to fill in a form so that the money being moved wouldn't count as a payment to the new ISA in that tax year.
Now, I opened a new ISA with NW that doesn't allow transfers in from previous ISA's. So, I wanted to move money from an old NW ISA into the new one (for a better rate of interest). The online bank service lets you do this very easily... except they treat it as an attempted transfer in from another ISA so the money disappeared into limbo for a few days then reappeared in the old account and I got a snotty letter telling me off for breaking the rules and telling me that if it happens again they'll close my new ISA and move everything into their p!ss poor one that pays 0.25 - 0.5% p/a.

Is it me? Given past experience I was expecting a transfer to require additional steps which was why I was surprised when it let me move the money in the online bank, and on that basis assumed it would treat it as a payment rather than a transfer. Obviously I was wrong but am I being unreasonable to think that if both ISA's are held with the same company and transfers aren't allowed that it shouldn't be possible to do it through the internet bank?

On your side my flabby posterior!

Gah!

[LIFTED] work!!!!
I only got back from a two week trip to Holland on Wednesday. Now I'm off to Stavanger for a training course tomorrow, but instead of heading ome on Thursday as planned, I'm going straight back to Holland for another two week trip.

That coupled with a fault on the company website not allowing me to enter my daysm means I might not get paid for any of it this month.

We have large and small bayonet, and large and small screw in bulb types in this flat. I have a good selection of spairs, but not the one I need for the bulb that has just blown. Absolutely ludicrous having so many different types.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Any reason why you can't standardise the sockets?

It's a rental property and we'll not be here too much longer. The couple of lamp purchases we made were before we knew the socket type of the flat fittings.

Starting to feel rather unwelcome here.
I'd like to mention that in both top of the range engineering consultancy I worked in, we are desperate for engineers, even fresh out of university, and just cannot find any. None of the hires in the last year (out of 7 people) have been Brits because noone even applies for jobs. We're running at 40% Brits, 25% Italians and mixed Eurozone expats in my team.

*rant over*

Useless Vodaphone

SWMBO got a new htc M8 phone and naturally wanted all the existing data (esp contacts ) transferred over from her old htc One

Could they do it – nope!

So I had to do it when we got home – their tech guys were useless and talk about zero customer service

:x

Due to boiler problems, the boiler has been on all weekend. We have underfloor heating. I have the window wide open, two shirt buttons undone and sleeves rolled up, and yet it's still ridiculously warm in here. I feel like I'm suffocating.

Why didn't they use the built in app that HTC provide for doing exactly that?
At worst they move it to the google account linked to the old phone, then move it back to the new one from there.
