Has anyone seen Cloud Atlas?
I've read a review which suggested it was quite good, but also quite hard work.
Anyone?

It was good. Wouldn't necessarily want to watch it again but worth a look. I rated it 8/10 on IMDB.

Saw that, but I really can't be doing with cringe 'comedy'. It wasn't as bad in Extras though.

Did you see Derek? That was an amazing show. I love Ricky.

It's in my Netflix list but I'm watching a mixture of QI and White Collar at the moment.

Captain America Winter Soldier - very good. In fact in a ranking of Marvel films it easy makes my top three, possibly fighting for joint second.

1. Iron Man (the first one!)
2. Avengers Assemble
3. Captain America Winter Soldier

I think I liked CA:WS more than any other Marvel film, including The Punisher.

The whole Marvel movie sausage machine is beginning to wear.

They've been (largely) good films, but I'm getting tired of the genre.

The Expendables 3 - It's a worse remake of part 2. And that wasn't great. Same deal; all the new names but most of them are on screen for a total of ten minutes, coming and going. It has a decent opening scene and then it's sheer tedium until the inevitable shootout they saved the budget for. It felt like it went on for half an hour and possibly did. Half the cast aren't famous enough to say more than a handful of lines or subsequently care about.

Closed Circuit - It's one of those films you can't say much about about without ruining it, but it's worth a watch. It's a solid, English thriller and I don't mean the sort of crap that stars the usual bloody faces. Doesn't overstay it's welcome either.

There's also a lot less blood than the first two. People were exploding like it was going out of fashion in them, but the new one had lots of people falling over, without gallons of red stuff being splashed out like an explosion in a ketchup factory.

I guess the 12a rating may have something to do with that.

Having said that, I enjoyed it, and so did the wife. Good film is good.

I've just remembered the Ninja Turtles movie was delayed; going by the reviews, you have to wonder how bad the film was before they rejigged it

I was actually laughing out loud at some of the reviews and they really weren't meant to be amusing

Watching it last night, I was so glad they replaced the effeminate-sounding Rhodey

Just back from watching Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Basically a filler film. You know it's bridging between the first and third films (does anyone know how many there will be?). Love some of the themes and ideas explored. A lot was predictable but still enjoyable. Glad I went to see it. If I score the first film 5/5, scoring this 4/5 would be too generous and 3/5 a bit harsh. Basically, it's still better than Man of Steel.

That was how I felt about it - a bit more of a push and it would've been great, a lot of work obviously went into it.

Expendables 3

Disengage brain at door (but I was expecting that anyway) and it's an enjoyable romp. I would agree it's all very non-splashy in order to get the 12A rating and it certainly loses something as a result.
If I was el-presidente of whichever made up country’s army the Expendables annihilated in the big fight at the end I’d be asking for a refund. They weren’t even up against Chuck Norris.

Still, funny enough but don’t expect any great character development. The most interesting person in the film’s probably Kelsey Grammars character.
