Ok, let's bet serious for a moment. That was why I decided to "get done" but if you are considering going down that road, make sure you don't want kids. Ever. It can be reversed, I've read, but would you want to take the chance? </seriousness> It also saves a bundle on condoms! </semi-serious>

My girlfriend already has two teenage daughters and I don't want to end up a 60-something father. I love kids, but I feel it is too late for me and my girlfriend doesn't want any more. Currently on a hormone coil, which will have to be replaced at some point, but I believe that a woman can only have so many... Unless she has to have "the" Op for some other reason, the easiest solution would be for me to have the snip. A cousin was being pushed into it by his wife. They got a dog about the same time and he hasn't been neutered yet - I think it is a feeling of solidarity or that if he gives in on the dog, he'll have to give in as well.

In which case I can tell you through experience that I went into hospital on a Wednesday morning, had the op' and was out on Weds afternoon. I had booked the rest of the week off, as my daugyter was being christened on Sunday, but on Thursday morning I went to Bury market with the wife and was able to lug about heavy shopping bags with minimal discomfort. It is also one of the things that I am most proud of... As you pointed out the female equivalent is quite drastic, and I did something positive to avoid her having to go through that experience. My only regret is that they wouldn't put up a monitor, as I really wanted to watch the op' being carried out!

No no no, bratty is quite right.
And whoever asked if they covered it in school, yes they did. They taught exactly what bratty is preaching. Basically:
Sex is bad, don't do it. You will get kids, and infections. Guaranteed.

The "kids" part of that is scarier.

I'd rather kids than HIV.
