No, it was my PC that was infected with some variant of the Bugbear virus... Ended up wiping the drive and putting Mandriva on for now, as the prospect of installing Windows at 21:00 didn't really appeal. Oh, and I didn't get any coding done last night, but today's Friday, and I'm hoping it's going to be a nice quiet day

How goes it JV? If you want I've got some CSS here for a site I'm working on for someone very similar to yours (uses slashes instead of pipes to seperate the items):

Thanks Edd, and I have an update! I was having a mess about with the Microsoft Expression thingy and having run everything through Notepad now have what appears to be a working PHP menu, which was what I was after. So... who fancies visiting http://johnthegeek.x10hosting.com and telling me if it works? There isn't any content, aside from the usual "latin filler text" and the menu options will probably change, but I want to know if the menu works on different platforms/browsers. So far I know it works on: Windows 7 with Internet Explorer 8 (8.0.7100.0) Windows 7 - FireFox 3.5.1 (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.1) Gecko/20090715 Firefox/3.5.1 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)) Windows 7 - Google Chrome (2.0.172.39) Thanks again everyone!

Works on Internet Explorer for Windows Mobile - although the body gets shown beneath the menus.

Thanks Dave, It's the same on my 'phone.
When I finalize the layouts I'm thinking of going with using percentage sizing, instead of fixed sizes.
Good idea or not?

Unless its a very complex page lay out I'd go % every time. Its always a bone of contention in the design community though.

Ok, here's another update: Yes, I have decided that percentages are the way forward. I think Here's another screenshot. Since this is a test site, which I am using for educational purposes I want to make it fully accessable so... WHAT do you think (clicky)The "Viewing Options" link would be a drop down menu with High contrast options, etc. Opinions?

Purely, out of interest JV - what have you used PHP for?
I can't imagine why you would want to produce that menu using PHP unless you were planning to write a CMS for it or something, which I doubt you are for a personal site???

I used PHP because I wanted to be able to change the menu options without editing every page individually. Unless there is another way? I do also want to look at PHP apps, such as a photo album, etc. Typing this on my mobile - more information tomorrow

Ah okay, I thought you were using PHP to churn through and spit out the html for the list itself. I assume you are using include() then? That's the way I would do it. There are alternatives, but I just like the PHP way.

Yes, I am using include() and I will try and put the code up when I get a minute.
Has anyone had a chance to look at the screenshot for the proposed new look?
Since this is an "educational" (for me) site I figure I might as well go the whole hog and make it as accessible as possible.

Ok, here's the line which accesses the menu: And here is the menu, (the bottom version, as I am scrapping the side version)

The only thing I'd suggest about that is removing the |s from the html, putting them in using CSS, and use an unordered list, so that screen-readers and the like just read a list of links.

Does the fact that the file is saved as menu.php make any difference? I'm at work so can't do any "proper" testing at the moment, but any further thoughts would be gratefully received.
