I don't fold and don't pay the bill but I will get, to use a local phrase, 'gurned at' if the bill goes any higher than it already is

used to fold on my 9600GT, then i realised all that extra usage cant be doing its lifespan any good (especially since its rabidly overclocked) and it killed my FPS in BF2

Is it? Over the years the various folding clients have, kept pace, power and efficiency wise, with developments in super computers. The latest folding client, for the Nvidia GPU, is considerably more powerful the latest super computers. According to the Top500 the top three super computers are: No. 1- Roadrunner 1105 TFLOPS, 2483.47KW power consumption giving 444.9 MFLOPS/W No. 2 - Jaguar 1059 TFLOPS, 6950.6KW power consumption giving 152.4 MFLOPS/W No. 3 - JUGENE 825.5 TFLOPS, 2268KW power consumption giving 364 MFLOPS/W The Nvidia GPU client produces 4058 TLOPS from 16157 active GPUs, even overestimating that this client increases the power consumption of the machines running it by 400W, this still gives 627.9 MFLOPS/W. It also has the added benefit of utilising stuff that already exists out there anyway, rather than involving spending hundreds of millions designing, building and commissioning new stuff.

I do. Bally199/35947/ Have been in CPC for the last few issues. I'm on *however many points it says in my sig *, and am actively folding on a 9600GT whenever my PC is on (except for gaming) and at night when I go to bed on a 3.4ghz Pentium D. I used to have a couple of machines folding (namely a 1.7ghz Pentium M laptop, a 3.4ghz skt478 Pentium 4 and a 3ghz Pentium D) but got rid of those/or used them as servers as they use loads of leccy without making any real points per day. I'd like to get another 9600GT/GSO so I could put a that old Compaq mobo and CPU to use, but I havent got the money.

I have no idea what folding is... apart from the poker terminology, which I'm guessing you ain't talking about. Also, we have an electric meter and Mrs. V. doesn't like leaving me the PC turned on all night, which is why I've never bothered finding out what it means.

Thinking about it, isn’t there an option to fold on a PS3? If so I can get my console folding as I don’t spend that much time on it..... Mind you hasn’t the PS3 got an ATi GPU So maybe not ideal but a starting point for me.

You can fold on the PS3 but the performance per watt it offers is not great. You'd only get about 1,000 PPD.

1000 ppd for about a 300w power draw. Not very effective for the money.

No, the RSX in PS3 is a Nvidia GPU. The xbox 360 has an ATI GPU which is why it keeps blowing up...

I stand corrected. I'm sure my power meter showed 289 watts when I used to use it.

Someone corrected him first, so I may as well post something.
My PS3 is quieter folding and thus is much more likely not to get noticed accidentally being left on overnight.
