Why waste valuable drinking time mucking about with pouring and glasses? Just chug it out of the bottle and move on to the next one.

Half a litre - a difference of 68ml.

Do you reckon a German "quick half" is pretty much our pint??? (8-p)

You just order a beer. 330ml is the small, 500ml is a normal glass, or you can get the large glasses, which are about a litre. The shape of the glass also varies depending on what type of beer you are drinking.

Pilsner, black beer, wheat beer, normal lager etc. all have a different shape glass and then you have Stein (originally from stoneware, hence the name), which people generally buy themselves and take to their local these days. Steins and Maß (the 1L glasses usually associated with Oktoberfest, but also served in some pubs, especially in tourist areas) are the only ones with handles, that I've seen.

Oh yeah, I also have a Stein :P I got it at the beer keller up at the SU in my first year. It's about two pints and I can get it filled up with Guinness for under £4 :D At home I usually have orange squash in it :P

For British Pints it's important to remember that, in the depressingly vast majority of cases, you don't get a full pint as unless the glass has a proper pint to the line mark on it you are reliant on the bartender getting it right. I suspect that most 'pints' are much closer to 500ml due to the head than most people realise.

Oh dear, the CAMRA brain washing appears to be getting to me.
As for beer, well, it's the Peterborough Beer Festival next weeks (Tuesday through till Saturday). I shall be working the Wednesday and Thursday evening at it for the first time. If you like beer and are local then I strongly recommend it.

Hmm, is this too early to be thinking about beer?

No, I'm not local. Not in a Tubbs and Edwards sense anyway. I don't have any webbed appendages for a start.
However, no tails are as welcome as locals at the beer festival. :D

If the glass says something along the lines of "Pint to top" then I'll give my pint back and ask for it without a head, if the head goes under the pint mark, I'll do the same and ask for a top up. It's not usually a problem, though younger bar staff, and bar staff in clubs don't seem to like doing it.

It's your legal right to a top-up, so quite frankly the bar staff can foxtrot oscar.

I'm aware that you are entitled to a top up on a short measure. However, how many people actually bother? It's very certainly not anywhere near 100%.
I would argue that the majority of people take a quick look and decide if it's acceptable at the bar or when they get it and then decide if they can be bothered to complain. Most of the time they can't.

There will obviously be exceptions but I suspect most people don't make a habit of demanding the full pint measure. It's just not British you know :D

Next time you're at a bar and you want to piss the barman off, ask for a 1/3 of a pint. They're legally required to serve it, but I bet you it takes them [LIFTED] ages to find a 1/3 pint glass.
