Hey,

After playing around with the idea of changing CPU (X48 board) or adding another 4870 to go Crossfire and seeking advice, I've kind of come to the conclusion that neither really delivers great value in terms of upgrade at present. Therefore I'm going to put my money instead into getting rid of the god awful desk I have and getting something a little snazzier. It sits in my living room so aesthetics are paramount. Two considerations are;

I have little room in terms of width to the desk as seen here



Secondly and also apparent within that picture is that I need to fit a Stacker in the lower section of any desk. Sounds simply but I've looked at quite a few where it wont fit between the lowest shelf and the keyboard tray.

I'd love some opinions on what's about for around £150. Ta in advance.

I dont know about fitting the stacker on it but this is a modern looking space saving desk. Its Argos so could be as rubbish as the one you have now though

Looking at the O.P's picture, there's a door next to his current setup, which opens onto the desk, so I don't know how practical the Argos solution would be.

If the setup had been a little further away from the door I would have suggested wall mounting the monitor, (I've got dual 22" TFTs wall mounted at home and it's amazing how much space you save) but I don't know how much the constant opening and closing, (and maybe slamming!) would work with the wall mounting, (screws and vibrations) so I won't suggest that... unless anyone knows more about this sort of thing than me.

I'll have a look around and let you know what I come up with.

Edit to add: any chance of some sizes, as in the distance from the door frame to the corner of the room please?

Mrr9, can't recommend the chair highly enough. It's actually more brown than the purple it appears in that picture. I think it's still available online, in fact it is here;

This desk would go in the same position as the current one though. The door wouldnt be a problem in that case.

Does it have to sit in your living room ?

The point I was trying to make is that his existing desk has a solid side, whereas the Argos one doesn't look anywhere near as sturdy. Would it be happy having a door opened into it? Looking at the picture, I'd be more than a little concerned.

That's just my opinion though.

Don't forget you need to keep distance between the stacker & the z5500's sub.
If not you'll end up with some nice blank HDD's
