I know a lot of people are moaning about MSN being temperamental this evening, so you are not the only one affected :D

I recently ditched Hotmail for Gmail, permanently.

If only I could ditch MSN, but every [LIFTED] under the sun uses it. I'd rather use Google Talk/Skype/other non-MSN client.

I have a couple of friends that use Skype, but everyone else uses MSN.

There are some pretty good alternatives that let you do several things, but none of them have all the features of MSN. I like having it work across 3 computers simultaneously, and I like to log my conversations. I don't know if GT can do that too, but I only know one person ever used it.

There's also one friend only ever chats on the facespace IM, but TBH he chats too much so I never login

Thankfully, I don't know anyone I like who uses AIM. Annoyingly, I know a lot of people use Yahoo and I can't get it to work on Messenger. Can anyone even remember ICQ? I sure as heckity can't remember my number.

It would be good if there was just one reliable and powerful feature-rich network, with a skinny client for those who don't want the extra features. Right now, the MSN network (which is supposed to include Yahoo) is as close as I've found. It's a lot better than the over one hundred year old "telephone" , and many people still use that for some reason I can't really comprehend.
