They could begin on 22nd October. Question is, will I notice any difference?

We (as a company) send around 600-1000 letters a day.

We're fooked.

Well I better post my Christmas and birthday cards and Easter cards as well. I just hope no one dies before the strike is over. :D

Talking to our postie at work he said a lot of the guys he worked with did not want to go on strike but their union had told them they had too

Its ok for the union bosses as they get paid either way but the postman gets no pay when he's on strike.

Welcome back btw

Yeah I can imagine it being pretty bad for people who rely on traditional mail.

I have noticed some of the retailers (shopto.net and others) now promote other couriers as delivery options

Yes but I am sure that you would appreciate the support if you had to go on strike for your job. I will be impacted by this but I am not going to blame just the union. The Post Office themselves are just as responsible.

I think the fact the rested on their laurels for so long as with many nationalised companies it's biting them in the arse now. Same with BT and the whole line quality fiasco.

I can understand them, but effectively losing (probably) billions of £'s in lost businesses for companies isn't a valid excuse with a week strike. You can't make customers suffer because your employer treats you like crap.

I agree but I am not going to hold it against my local postman who probably had little option.

And who does the final delivery? When some insurance documents went stray last year, I complained to the post office only to be told that because it was another mail company, it was not their fault. However, as we all know, the privately sent mail’s delivery is handled by Royal Mail.
