http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8313694.stmJeremy Hunt - rhyming slang FTW! Can't wait for the inevitable onslaught from the Murdoch empire...

I feel quite protective about the BBC. Sure, it has it’s faults, but those faults seem far less when you see what commercial TV is like. Rather that trying to destroy the BBC, maybe Murdoch and his cronies need to work out what it is that people want from their TV. Endless repeats of The Simpsons, Futurama and Stargate do not a good channel make. When Murdoch’s channels start producing the majority of its output without scraping the last available barrel of poor taste, I’ll pay attention to his whinings. Right now, I’ll be watching the BBC’s output in favour of his. Oh - did I mention no adverts?

All stations need a better mix of programmes to keep younger blokes entertained, just for a kickoff...

Sky's TV offerings are bland and dire. I do not think that I have ever gone out of my way to watch anything that they have produced. ITV has its own problems. The only show on ITV that I actively watch is Doc Martin. Other than that it is the BBC, Channel 4 or Five.

I’d agree. In effect, nothing has changed in the last 20 years, despite the channel count going up. There are really only 3 or 4 channels worth watching.

I would agree with that (almost). BBC2 for 12 sundays per year, Discovery HD, Nat Geo HD, Comedy Central & Dave.

What ever combination of channels I would have thought that the majority of us will have few than a dozen channels that they watch regularly.

But the BBC do not do much programming like that. That is more ITV's realm. Scrapping the BBC charter is a disaster in the making. I would accept that the BBC are expanding into areas that they should keep out of but that is another matter.

I'm talking about banning them from all broadcasting.

While I agree with the sentiment, they are cheap programs to make, that is why they fill up the schedules.
