Anyone know anything about the Palm Pre crashing? The missus picked one up last week and has been complaining for days it crashes, mostly when finishing a call. She went back to the shop today but before she got there I looked in the net and it could be a common problem.
The most common suggestion at the minute is that the battery and/or compartment is a bad fit resulting in a disconnection of power when there's movement in the phone, i.e. when you shut the slider.
The o2 shop perfromed and 'update' and sent her on her merry way saying its fixed. Within minutes she was back in the shop as it crashed again. They are now as I write this giving her a new handset.
I have read though - as I said earlier - the issue is the design/size of the battery/device so I'm presuming a new device wont solve the problem?
I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens. Apparently you only have 14 days to change your mind about the handset/contract but I dont see how they could refuse to take this back if it is still happening beyond this time with a new device.
Anyone heard anything or have any experience with the Pre?

I don't have experience of the Pre but I do on o2 returns (currently got my x1 away for the 2nd time) First failure is repair, if the fault is back within 30 days it's usually a refurb replacement (in the case of the Pre I can see it being a new one) 3rd time is a new phone I think if she has the trouble again I would push for a different handset, the Samsung Droid is out now on o2 contract As it's within 30 days I'd be inclined to push for a different handset (as the droid/pre is similar in pricing) and also for some form of compensation for the hassle if it has been away a length of time (I got £50 from o2 when they incorrectly charged me the full rate for my phone contract instead of the 40% discount as I went through retentions)

The samsung android phone, not the Motorola Droid. I know Motorola make the Droid I CBA to try and remember the name as it's some stupid Samsung naming convention of s's, i's and numbers or something like that Edit: http://shop.o2.co.uk/mobile_phone/Samsu ... ly/SamsungAnd most site call the android platform 'droid now, and Im lazy when it comes to punctuation.

Update.
I met her after work and she turned on the 'new' Pre. The o2 guy said all her bits and bobs would transfer over. Needless to say they didnt. Then it dawned on her all contacts, photos, messages, were still on the old handset. We popped back and the (stupid) o2 guy assurred us the phone would be wiped at the factory. Obviously its not occured to him that it might get lost/stolen along the way or any number of other possibilities. He fetched it back so Nicola could delete the stuff.
In the meantime she asked him why he said everything would come over and he said he'd only said contacts would. He didnt.
Anyway in possesion of the old handset Nicola asked if you could just factory reset it. He stared blankly then said 'dunno.' I did it for her - took all of 10 seconds to work out how.
Finally she asked if the update that would supposedly 'fix' the old phone had been applied to the new one. The response was 'dunno, I could ask Kyle.' How would Kyle know, he's the one who gave her the new phone!!!
Not a good start to life with o2. Will just have to see how the 'new' handset performs now.

I hope the new Pré sorts out the problem!
My first iPhone 3GS was duff, but I had to return it 3 times, before they would replace it - they sent it back unrepaired (no fault found) the first 2 times. In the first 8 weeks of "ownership", I was without the 'phone for 6 weeks, but T-Mobile only have to try and repair it the first 2 times, under German consumer law...

I'm on my third iPhone now too, and this is since Orange started doing them So much for 'it just works'. First one apparently just died, went off and wouldn't come back on, second one had a sunken screen on one side, the one I have now has a cluster of dead pixels top left of the screen. In comparison my works phone, a G2 has been perfect.
