Yes, the shark pressure I mentioned was PSI, I have no idea about the Octopus one. It's a difficult thing to gauge, the shark measurements are done with steel ball wrapped around an aluminium core. The more the aluminium is distorted by the balls as the shark bites, the more pressure used of course. This doesn't tell us, however, if the shark was going for it on cylinders, or just having a nose to see it it was food or not. And octopus are, I'd have thought, intelligent enough to have sussed that it's not food before going to bite the gauge.

I would assume the PSI is 4 tons given the small surface area compared to the actual force exerted. In much the same way a (for sake of arguement) woman weighing 100lbs wearing stilettos exerts a PSI on the ground approximately 1600PSI depending on the shoe (assuming 1/16th of an inch on the heel) when on one foot a 6000lbs elephant however (4 feet, each covering 40 square inches but only 2 in contact with the ground) only exerts around 75PSI

The force of a bite should surely be measured in Newtons? As finlay alluded, the pressure depends inversely on the area being measured and is thus not terribly meaningful.
Measured at the tip of a pointy little tooth, the pressure of a mouse's bite is probably immense. However, the total force it can exert with those little jaw muscles is going to be quite low.
However, these statistics are usually formulated for titillation rather than usefulness.

That was more the point I was trying to get to (well, that and trying to determine if the given value seemed to fall within a range). Although I have just realised I don't even know if lbs are a unit of mass or weight. Oh dear...

Weight Newtons measure mass, Kilograms/pounds measure weight (as they are affected by gravity)

Ummm, no. Kg = mass. Newtons = Force = weight. Weight is the effect of gravity on a mass.

Turns out it can be both. Neither is implied.

The sword budget on Kill Bill was $65,000. Miho's swords in Sin City are the self same Hattori Hanzo swords.

Whilst spinach is very rich in iron, it contains high levels of oxalate, so it can't be absorbed too well when we nom it.

Car dealers are scum I suspect the Accord I got today has an invalid MOT (MOTed today, past amazingly without the rear view mirror being able to attach to the window or the handbrake holding it on a slope) And VOSA offer a free MOT retest within 5 working days if you feel it should have failed up to 28 days after the test if you have recently bought the car

Redford, Nolte, Kristofferson, Voight, Caan, Stallone, Arnie - all considered for the role of Superman in 1978 Stallone was the favourite of that list for a time with the father and son producers, until Brando vetoed it, leading to the two falling out for years... When the producers decided to go with an unknown, Christopher Reeve wasn't even much of a certainty, as even the family dentist was considered

It is also bad for people suffering from gout! It has high purine levels.
