Aside from which, you mis-quoted me. What I said was I am going to get 499 of my friends and we are all going to HMV at lunch time to buy 2 copies each.

I don't know who actually won the X-Factor, and I really don't care, but I have a question. What has this person ever done to you, (the people who are buying this other record)?

As far as I can see, he entered a talent contest and won, and now has a single out which you people are trying to stop from getting to number 1 out of, what appears to me at least, to be either sheer spite or jealousy.

This isn't a flame bait, but I am interested in your motives.

Before anyone starts going on about Simon Cowell, you can think of him what you like, but I don't understand why people are venting their anger on this kid who, as far as I can tell, hasn't done anything wrong...

Just my thoughts. Feel free to argue, but do it nicely, eh? ;)

1. Simon cowell is a cnut
2. see 1
3. X-factor is by no means a talent show. It is a marketing exercise to ensure that Simon Cowell and SONY BMG rake in as much money as they possibly can.
4. I can remember when the race to the xmas no1 was a fun race with several bands/songers/big pink blobbly things having a chance to become number 1.
5. Simon Cowell is cnut
6.Simon Cowell acts as if the number one slot is for whoever wins the xfactor.
7.The lyrics to Killing are very apt.. although as the SONY BMG own the rights to the song and thus will earn a lot of cash, its better that Simon Cowells smug grin get knocked off.
8. Simon Cowell is a cnut.
9. It would be nice to have a band that writes and performs there own songs (without the aid or need or immense technological help to make them sound good) to be at number one.
10 Simon Cowell is a cnut.

Simon Cowell won the X-Factor, he does every year

The winner according to my gf's sister is a bit of a prick as he used to come into the bar her friends work in, 3rd hand opinions at most... but I just don't like people to start with

The people 'on the streets' must have been taking the p1ss; McCartney's performance can only be likened to Widow Twankey with laryngitis.

The X-Factor winner himself isn't the problem, never has been for most people I suspect. For most people it's probably something of a protest at the Cowell media circus* and what had become the inevitability of him effectively getting a number one.

It's just the backlash that was always coming. I suspect this year more than ever the general public got wise(r) to the act - I believe there were unnecessary revenue-raising public votes (especially since the 'judges' often changed their minds on a whim, supposedly), some ridiculous showboating and contrived fakery from them, potential Ofcom investigations, allegations in the press that the sound engineers were threatened with job loss if they didn't help out 'Jedward', you name it...

One thing that got me was that far as I could tell, for weeks the public kept 'Jedward' in, then decided they weren't worth wasting their time and money on. Er, all of a sudden. To make it even more confusing, Cowell has to sit there and claim it's all about who's the best singer whilst trying to rely on the public!

As I say, I think even the people watching it are now starting to get sick of it in the way they did with the whole contrived Big Brother bit, maybe even 'Jedward' were the straw that broke the camel's back :?

* Obviously the media itself is also a big part of the problem for these people, you just can't avoid the feckin' thing without leaving the country, probably :(

X Factor judge Simon Cowell has criticised the campaign, but McElderry told BBC Breakfast that he was not taking it personally.

"I'm not really seeing it as a personal attack, because I think if any other person would have won it would have been the same case," he said.

"It's more against The X Factor than the actual winner. I would be disappointed if it's not number one - but it's out of my hands and there's nothing I can do about it and I just hope people get behind us and support us and buy the single."

He also admitted he is yet to hear the song by his chart rivals.

From McElderry himself. Cowell probably would have preferred it if McElderry had've said that Cowell was the target :)

I expect this campaign actually increased the sales of his single, because some of the fans will be more motivated to buy it in protest against the protest.

So basically, from Simon's point of view there is no such thing as bad publicity. He's in a win-win win situation; even if the single is only number two it doesn't mean he makes less cash.
