In related news the Brazilian Foreign Office advises against non-essential travel to the UK.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

If they are given the power for the olympics I cannot see those powers being withdrawn. Then what about all London coppers? They will demand the same rights to arm. I am against this. Armed response vehicles are sufficient.

When my brother was working for the MOD police they'd just gone to the armoury to collect their weapons when they got a call to assist the British Transport police with an incident on a train (I think people were walking through the train mugging people as they went).
The muggers got the shock of their life when instead of a couple of British Transport police with whistles they got 6 fully armed officers boarding the train to make the arrest.

Calling in support is perfectly adequate when necessary.

I think you will find that most officers are against being armed on a routine basis.

+1. IMO there is no need to arm every bobby either in London or across the UK. Also IMO it will only serve to increase the presence of illegal weapons on the street.
