clickyit seems the average gamer (although still male ) is 30. I can remember PCformat saying in one of their surveys that their average reader was 35. So it still makes me an older gamer

Depending on what kind of games you're looking at, then cost must be a large factor. If I wanted to, I could now afford to spend £35 on a game a few times a year. I happen to choose to spend it on other things (whisky ahem), but my point being that when I was 17 or in my early 20s I didn't have anything like that kind of money!

On the BbC news was an 80+ year old lady who was playing games on her ps3.

Well In which case I am a 13 stepper. Still play games, yes it keeps the brain going. I do strategy games and so take my time playing but think through tactics. Also you can probably get the heart rate going a bit with some of the shooters and adrenaline gets a boost.
