perverse'Smeg' isn't as formal a word to define. It grew up (as far as I know) out of the TV Series 'Red Dwarf', where it was a 'substitute swear word' for when they couldn't actually swear on TV. So characters in the show used phrases like 'what the smeg?' and 'Shut the smeg up'. Allegedly the writers of the show claimed when asked about it that it's a shortened version of the word ' smegma' (click for a definition) but it is also the name of an expensive brand of kitchen appliances.

True, but it actually derived from 'smegma' which is a word. It's the build up of crap under a drity foreskin. Which is nice.
