I start my new job shortly and, as I'm moving away, I've been out for fare thee well drinks with old work-mates and friends.

Inevitably, the conversation turned towards my old firm and how things are going there. I find out, amonst other things, that the person the company hired instead of me, when I had to re-interview for my own job, is quote "an epic failure".

I don't harbour any ill will towards this person, but is it wrong that I got a warm glow, and a feeling of smug satisfaction on hearing the news? :D

I've never understood that smiley, it represents jealousy to me but it mainly gets used for smugness. :?

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.
