BBC 4 Tuesday 9pm http://www.tvguide.co.uk/detail.asp?id=59108644 could be interesting and fun :D

I have seen the advert for that and thought:
  for the impartiality of the BBC.

Another over exaggerated half truth ridden anti politician propaganda rather than a proper docu-drama .
It’s like that drama that made out that tony Blair would become a nervous guilt ridden wreck who made no money out of his post premiership career. And what is the reality he making multi millions every year and has no guilt regret not even a twitch at the validity of the Iraq war.

This show will be a steaming pile of reactionary red top, mail and express reader porn.

As a job being an mp means: having to work 70 hours a week for 8/9 months of the year; you become an automatic pariah; because you usually are only elected because of your party affiliation you can only vote with the party; You get a ministerial job you’ve then got the national media trying to shaft you so after getting into a position where you can make some real difference you can’t do anything because the slightest slip up means your head and finally every 5 years you have a chance of losing your job. Joy(!)

An MP's job also includes

1) a very very nice salary (roughly 3 times the national average?)
2) An expenses scheme that was apparently designed to be able to be abused.
3) Being able to vote on your own pay rise every year.
4) Being able to claim your home as a business expense.
5) Being able to employ your family if you like but have no questions asked if they are up to the job.
6) Being able to work as few or as many hour as you like with nobody checking on you.
7) One of the best pension schemes in the western world.

And yes, quite a few of them lose their jobs once every four years but an awful lot of people have lost their jobs recently and they didn't get four years notice to prepare for it. And didn't get a massive payoff if they were bad enough at their job that their 'employers' decide not to renew their contract.

So, really, my heart bleeds. As is always said about teachers, nurses etc - if they don't want the job, quit. There's plenty of people who don't have a job who would be willing to do it for the same terms.
