An MP's job also includes
1) a very very nice salary (roughly 3 times the national average?)
2) An expenses scheme that was apparently designed to be able to be abused.
3) Being able to vote on your own pay rise every year.
4) Being able to claim your home as a business expense.
5) Being able to employ your family if you like but have no questions asked if they are up to the job.
6) Being able to work as few or as many hour as you like with nobody checking on you.
7) One of the best pension schemes in the western world.
And yes, quite a few of them lose their jobs once every four years but an awful lot of people have lost their jobs recently and they didn't get four years notice to prepare for it. And didn't get a massive payoff if they were bad enough at their job that their 'employers' decide not to renew their contract.
So, really, my heart bleeds. As is always said about teachers, nurses etc - if they don't want the job, quit. There's plenty of people who don't have a job who would be willing to do it for the same terms.
