Yes, I think it is important (and think the same as Jon on voting for stuff they can't afford to pay for) if they want to have their own parliaments and be devolved from ours then they don't get a vote, just like we don't get a vote on theirs. Likewise they shouldn't be receiving funding from our taxes, if they want free prescriptions and free tuition then they can figure out how to pay for them.

Like it or not Northern Ireland is in the United Kingdom.

So is England, I'm still English.

If you were from Ireland you'd be Irish.
From Northern Ireland you're either Northern Irish or just British.

Fine, Northern Irish then. Or British if you prefer - though the latter is a dying brand.

A quick scour on the net shows mixed identities for the NI lot. It seems some identify themselevs as British, some as Northern Irish and some simply as Irish.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demography_and_politics_of_Northern_Ireland wrote:
In general, Protestants in Northern Ireland see themselves as being British, while Catholics regard themselves as being Irish, as been shown by data from 1989 to 2006

Also;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Ireland wrote:
As part of the United Kingdom, people from Northern Ireland are British citizens. They are also entitled to Irish citizenship by birth which is covered in the 1998 Belfast Agreement between the British and Irish governments, which, provides that: it is the birthright of all the people of Northern Ireland to identify themselves and be accepted as Irish or British, or both, as they may so choose, and accordingly [the two governments] confirm that their right to hold both British and Irish citizenship is accepted by both Governments and would not be affected by any future change in the status of Northern Ireland.

That may be very different from the actual reality of things.
Yeah, I know about dual citizenship as my Brother-in-Law apparently holds an Irish passport (I say apparently because I haven't actually seen it but it's what he claims).

I consider myself British anyway, but I don't like what 'Northern Irish' implies to people who don't/won't understand our position in the UK, so I don't use it even in quick conversation :|
